The Long Road to Adventure... (Part 1)
Just-ify & I began our holiday with a bit of a brief roadtrip/detour by the Swellendam backpacker's. After pitching our tent on the lawn b
ehind the communal kitchen & braai area, we decided to go for a hike up to a rumoured waterfall. On the way to the foot of the trail, we strolled past the fields where the owner of the inn keeps her 14 horses of varying breeds. Pintos, palomino's, bays... mares, stallions, geldings, colts, fillies... all beautifully healthy & well-groomed. My dream come true... The hike up to the waterfall was in total only 5km, but the last half was intensely stee
p and quite exhausting. But it was worth it. The trail was such a melange of sights and smells it seemed decorated by nature herself purely for our pleasure. Even the cobwebs across the path seemed to add to the mystical magic of it all. The next day we went horse-riding - Just-ify's first time on a horse! Although
he was given the alpha-male of the herd to ride, he still did surprisingly well. Plus it was just the two of us & the guide, so it was very peaceful & personal.
